Mel Duffield

Mel Duffield is the Chief Scheme Strategy and Stakeholder Officer at Universities Superannuation Scheme, the £75.5bn hybrid scheme for universities and higher education institutions in the UK. Mel’s executive responsibilities at USS include oversight and coordination of valuations, corporate communications and external relations, stakeholder support and strategy and insight. Prior to joining USS in 2015, Mel held positions at organizations such as Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) and Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (PLSA). She was also a senior economic advisor at HM Treasury, the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department of Education. Mel is a PPI governor and a former member of the PLSA’s Policy Board and Chair of its Cost Transparency Initiative from December 2018 to March 2022. Mel sits on the board of directors for the International Centre for Pensions Management (ICPM), in addition to their member engagement and events committees, and has served as a magistrate in London and Hertfordshire since 2016. Mel has a BSc in Economics from Nottingham University and an MSc in Economics from Bristol University.
